Asbestos Abatement

Black Sheep Environmental specializes in asbestos abatement and our team of skilled technicians can facilitate testing to determine the existence of asbestos in your home. We always work quickly and safely to return your home or business back to a healthy environment.

Often, asbestos is discovered during remodeling and renovation. We partner with general contractors, home builders, and renovation companies to help expedite the process of testing and removal.

If you are a general contractor and require assistance with asbestos, please contact Jason Law directly at 778-549-5374.

Samples

You or your contractor should hire a qualified person, like a hygienist, to collect samples. The hygienist will have those samples analyzed in a lab and provide a report which indicates where the asbestos is and how hazardous it is to remove.

Below, you can see the common places Asbestos can be found in homes older than 1990.

After reviewing the Sample Results, we will come and visit your location to assess how much work needs to be done and what kind of set up we will need. Any special instructions you may have for us, or additional work which may be required can be discussed at this time.

Following our visit, we will provide you a quote estimating time and costs for your Asbestos Abatement.

Asbestos Abatement

What to expect

A Notice Of Project will be filed 48 hours prior to the abatement with WorkSafe BC in accordance with their guidelines for dealing with asbestos.

Our technicians arrive onsite and after a brief walk through, set up a containment. This operates under negative air pressure and will ventilate outside your home. The ventilation uses HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Arrestance) air filters that ensure the air coming from the containment has no more than .7 microns of asbestos particulates, which means, the air is clean.

Our technicians will be wearing personal protective equipment. You will see:

  • Coveralls (with a hood and booties)
  • A half mask with HEPA filters, or a full PAPR (Powered Air Purifying Respirator) mask, depending on the risk level of the abatement
  • Gloves
  • Safety Glasses

If you have any questions during the abatement, please call the number provided. Remember that while the containment is set up that part of the house/building cannot be accessed. It is unsafe to enter unless you are a qualified technician and dressed in proper personal protective equipment.

Check out the pictures below to see what a containment might look like in your home.

Outside the Containment

Inside the Containment

If there is an emergency our technicians are trained to deal with it safely. There is a qualified first aid attendant onsite as part of the crew and we provide training to our staff to ensure they know proper health and safety procedures.

Clean-up

All our debris is double bagged in 6 mil poly bags. It is labelled clearly as asbestos debris and taken to a special dump site where they can dispose of it responsibly.

The inside of the containment is HEPA vacuumed and wiped down thoroughly. If necessary a hygienist will do an air clearance in your home to make sure the air is clean.

We make every effort to leave your home as tidy as we can! Here are some examples of what your home might look like after we complete the abatement.
